Timemaster 30In 190cc Briggs OHV RWD Personal Pace BSS Mower Review

I have a large yard, almost .25 acres and there is some slope in the land from the house to the curb. When we moved into the house 22 years ago, I mowed the lawn with a push mower. Even with a self-propelled mower, it would take about 1.5 hours to mow without bagging. With bagging, it would take almost 2 hours. I progressed through several riding mowers, an older 25" Toro, then a 30" Dixon ZTR, and finally, a John Deere LT166 38" riding mower. Unfortunately, I found that because the lawn slopes, the riding mowers would not give me a level cut no matter how much I adjusted the mowing deck. Plus, I had to trim the edges and around the bushes, garden area, etc. with a push mower. So it would still take me about 1.5 hours to mow and trim. This past weekend, the push mower died on me. I went online to look for a new push mower and came across the Toro Timemaster. I knew there were commercial push mowers that size, but didn't want to spend the thousands of dollars on one. When I saw this, I had to go check it out. Maybe, just maybe, I could get rid of the small push mower and riding mower and have this one do it all. I had to drive 50 miles to look at one at the Home Depot because they were sold out at all the other Home Depots within my area. The service rep told me that they can't keep them in stock. They are selling like wildfire.

It is large and looks daunting. However, I got it home, added oil and gas, pulled the cord once and it fired right up. I mowed the entire lawn (mulched) and was able to get into all the trim areas in under 1 hour and had a great cut. This is what I have been after for a long time. The twin blades did a great job. The mower is no more noisier that a regular push mower. Even though it is large in size, I found it no harder to maneuver around than my old 21" self-propelled mower. The power drive moves the mower along with little effort on your part. You can use the turbo boost handle to make this thing almost pull you along if you need the extra power. The bag comes off easily and the handle easily folds up for compact storage. I like this and definitely recommend it if you have a larger lawn that is too big for a regular size push mower and maybe too small for a riding mower.

Addendum: It is now spring and I pulled the mower out to change the oil. The manual illustrates where the oil drain plug is located but I will be danged if I can find it on the mower. It is hidden by the mower deck. Since I don't have a siphon pump to suck the oil out through the filler tube and don't want to buy one, the only only other way to drain the oil is to tip the mower sideways and drain it out the fill tube. That's fine as that is the way that I have done it with my other push mowers, but the position of the fill tube makes this difficult to do. My oil drain pan is about 4 inches high and you cannot tip the mower enough before the oil filler tube hits the top of the oil drain pan and no oil drains out. I had to put the mower up on a 4 in. platform to be able to get the filler tube higher and tip the mower more than half way sideways to get all the oil out. You shouldn't use this drain technique with any gasoline in the tank. Got the oil changed, put in some gas, pulled the cord 1 time and it fired right up. As a previous reviewer stated when educating the Toro Tech Support person, there is no throttle/idle adjustment on this. Just one speed. Start it and go.
