I purchased this to do smaller jobs like washing the vinyl siding near my front garden--it's in shade and gets algae growing due to moisture and low light. I also have a vinyl deck and it's not easy to wash the railing--algae gets into the crevices, plus the decking needs more than a garden hose pressure. At the price, and the fact that it is electric, I didn't expect professional house-washer performance, but I did get a good, useful item that can handle multiple tasks from car washing, furniture washing, siding washing, even window washing if you use the RIGHT attachment.
You get a number of attachments with this unit, including a turbo (higher power) nozzle, angle nozzle, rotating brush and detergent reservoir.
So far, I've just used the turbo nozzle to clean some algae off the vinyl siding and to clean the flagstone walkway.
I knocked off a star because the manual is absolutely confusing. Eventually, I worked out why and how you attach the nozzle, the quick connect to the garden hose, and what side goes in what inlet but the pictures and the instructions, plus the markings on the unit do not always match up.
As to washing the vinyl to get the algae off the siding; you need to be fairly close (about 6 inches) and it will wash off the accumulation. However, you will need to be close on upper stories of your house, so either you need to climb a stepladder (which I did) or hire a pro, because the power dissipates at any distance. The unit is light--about 12 lbs, so carrying and lifting it up the ladder was not a problem for me, and the hose is 20 feet, the electric cord 35 feet, so it had distance from the outlet.
This unit requires 1.3 gallons of water per minute, which is said to be not much more than your garden hose normally uses. You can't use the highest pressure nozzle on your windows (breakage potential) but the softer output of the brush or the rotating nozzle could be used to wash outside windows. And you could wash your car or painted areas, as the high pressure nozzle does take off aging paint from columns and moldings, so beware. I would not run this continuously for more than a half an hour; the motor is not all that large and could burn out. I ran mine for about fifteen minutes and gave it a rest.
Once you get this up and running, it is not hard to use--the quick connect to the hose is easy--you screw on a swage-lock style attachment and push it into the hose inlet. This is a safety feature; too much pressure will pop it off the inlet which is why it is not attached directly. The hose simply screws onto the hose inlet near the wheels. After bleeding air off the nozzle before turning on the unit, you turn on the power on the unit itself and hit the trigger. Easy enough. The power cord has a reset button for safety, rather like a ground fault protector. You must turn this on before using every time. The plug did not fit into my outdoor outlet well--it is a box type plug with that on/off switch and a bit larger than the outlet plug.
If you have a large boat, a big house or deck, you may want a gas-powered unit. This is handy for small jobs. I was satisfied--it washed off the cobweb mess from my front entrance, took off some algae and cleaned the deck and flagstones. I think I might try washing my car with it, and perhaps with the lower pressure nozzle, some of the windows. For the price, it is useful, but it has limitations, so don't expect a pro performance. If you need really high power wash, rent a unit or buy a better one.
