Kawasaki KRB750B Backpack Leaf Blower Tube Throttle Review

This is a blower made to move mountains of leaves.
And it is only 20.7 pounds!!! (Not 28 pounds as listed in the Amazon specs [I think the 28 includes all the great packing this great unit comes with.])
The backpack arrived in only 3 days from Wise Sales.
The form fit packing material really seems to protect it in shipping; I don't think I have ever seen any item better packed than Kawasaki does for this blower.
Everything is already put together except for adding adding the blower tube to the unit, and this takes like 5 minutes to do.
It started up on the second pull! (It might even have started up on the first pull, but it was a half-hearted attempt as I wanted to get a feel of how much resistance to the cord.)
The fit and finish of the unit is first rate. The tubes have a nice locking mechanism. The hand held controls work smoothly.
The backpack padding and ergonomics of how it fit with the hip belt made me agree with the Australian lawn pro who said it is the most comfortable of any backpack blower he has used.
Kasasaki has a good reputation for its engines and for this unit in particular checking on lawn pro discussion boards. There is a pretty widespread dealer network for the pros, even though this brand is not as well known to the average homeowner.

I have a light weight Echo 25 cc backpack blower that I use to clear grass clipping and leaves off of hard surfaces like my driveway, walks and deck.
But I knew if I wanted to move loads of leaves like the commercial lawn guys do, I would need a big blower. But trying on the Husqvarna 560BTS which weighs 23.5 pounds made me appreciate how heavy a big packpack blower can feel. I know the 3 pounds lighter weight for the Kawasaki does not sound like much, but every pound on your back counts.
The big Echos weigh over 24 pounds.
The big Stihl was only 21 pounds, but I remain leery of the new 4 cycle units, and would have cost $150 more than this unit.
The Tanaka and the Makita were also in the 21 pound area, but cost more.
Wise Sales was good enough to include the Kawasacki $50 rebate offer which extends to 10/31/12.

Final note to those contemplating a backpack blower. All of professional lawn guys you see blowing mountains of leaves are using top of the line blowers with at least 64cc engines.
When you look at how much power there is in a blower, look at the air flow in the tube, not miles per hour. With a little tube you can make even a little blower have impressive wind speeds in miles/hour. But it takes a big engine to move the large column of air it takes to move a pile of leaves. This unit moves 750 cubic feet per second. The air flow in the "mid size" Husquvarna and Echo models (about $300) blow less than 500 cubic feet per second, and are 2 pounds heavier to boot! Also note that there is a second spec you may see - the air volume in the housing before it gets down the tube - ignore this number, but beware that some sites only list this number, making you go to the manufacturer's web site to get the air flow in the pipe/tube.
