Purchased Ridgid 3000 PSI / 2.6 GPM at HD. Subaru engine / CAT pump. Subaru engine = JUNK. Gas in oil. Returned to HD, exchanged for same model (new model year). Same design, components. Minimal usage, leaking oil. Frustrated, returned to HD and got a refund. Began to seriously research. CAT pumps are good, Subaru motor is junk.

Brand of pressure washer does not matter. It comes down to the engine and more importantly the pump.

Enter Dewalt DXPW4240. Manufactured by Simpson in USA. Honda GX390 = GREAT MOTOR / PROVEN TRACK RECORD. This model has either a General Pump or Comet Pump. I have Comet version.

Purchased at HD in spring of 2012. Took home. Was literally blown away. 3000 PSI to 4200 PSI is like comparing a garden hose to a fire hose. This thing literally will tire you out during extended usage. Logged some decent trigger time. Maintained pump oil level (used CAT pump oil) and checked motor oil level. This unit does feature low oil level shut off. It does work.

Stored for winter. Ran RV antifreeze through pump.

Just brought out from storage. Fired right up. Logged even more trigger time.

This is the real deal. You can not even compare this to residential or even prosumer PW's. This is professional grade. Construction is solid. Engine is destruction proof. Pump is replaceable. Maintain it and it will last and last and last.

It will literally blow a hole in a variety of materials with the right tip. Adjustable pump pressure via valve functions as it should. Setup for PW hose and water inlet are easily accessed.

Purchased seperate 100' Simpson hose to compliment 50' supplied. ZERO drop in pressure. Manual says extend water inlet vs. extending PW hose. This PW sucks the water and if adequate water is not being supplied, it is immediately noticeble as pressure drop off occurrs.

This was a $1200.00 investment. If you are serious about what you purchase, this is the PW for you. I have nothing but good things to say about this PW. It works flawlessly.

The only minor negative I can comment on is changing the motor oil. It is very difficult / near immpossible to access the drain plug. (SEE Drainzit HON1012 12mm Oil Changing Aid for Honda GX240, GX270, GX340, GX390, GC160).

I am thrilled with this purchase. I am running out of things to PW. I look forward to years of service out of this machine. Definately a solid PW. DON'T HESITATE if you can stomach spending the money. I spent $600 on the Ridgid product which had an inferior motor. Didn't last. Nothing in that price range PSI/GPM range mirrors the quality of this machine. Next step up from this would be a Hotsy but you are talking more $$$. Identitcal would be Simpson branded. Similar would be from Northern Tool / Northstar brand.

I simply chose the Dewalt model as I could purchase from brick and mortar (Home Depot) and it matches my other Dewalt tools (anal I know).

I installed one belt of two I bought. as rear drive variable speed belt on an old MTD Lawn tractor to replace old worn one. Went right in and is the right size as size is critical for this tractor. Works great. The belt looked to be high quality. Will see how it performs in long run but Isee no problems with it.
