This is an aftermarket shaft only that fits spindle assemblies 618-0574, 918-0574, 618-0565, and 918-0565. Used on 42" later model 600 series MTD mowers. If your shaft is damaged and the bearings, pulley, and housing are OK then save by only replacing the shaft. The manufacturer does not have a part number nor sell the shaft only, they want to sell you the whole spindle. This works well in the FSP spindle, has a slightly different star design (copyright issue?) but will accommodate the MTD 6 point star blades. It is common for the star portion of the blades to be damaged or worn off. We suspect the most common reason is improperly installed blades, they are not fully seated in the star and come loose and spin damaging the star. Be sure to fully seat the blades in the star to prevent future shaft damage.

A few months before buying this, I had a blade strike that caused the blade to shear off the splines where the blade mounts to the spindle. I spent $60 on a new spindle assembly... Recently, the same situation had me dreading the cost of repair, until I found the shaft sold separately! None of the parts stores in town sold the shaft separately, so kudos to Amazon Merchants who do! I was worried that I might need a press to remove the old spindle, but as it turns out, you just unscrew the top bolt, lift the pulley wheel off, and it falls right out.

This is a much cheaper, and easy to undertake, repair for splines that have been sheared off from one too many blade strikes.

OEM-731-2643 Snow Blower Chute Clearing Tool Review

I wanted to use this with an old snow blower ( a lot of the new ones have this scoop attached) and was trying to figure out how I'd mount it. This includes a mounting bracket, though you have to drill two holes, no big deal. This scoop is identical with at least the OEM scoop that came with my newer Troy Built blower. Not much else to add, good price and it works. Never, ever a reason to use your hands to clear a clogged chute.
